"The human psyche and society are Giebens main sources of inspiration. These are the never-ending battlegrounds between male and female, order and chaos, and ratio vs emotion/instinct. It is mesmerizing that even though one does not exist without the other, they often seem in conflict, and how one’s identity is being shaped and formed through the outcome of these conflicts. Within Giebens installation she shows different elements of conflict by using a variety of text, colors and materials and searches for a certain balance in the mayhem."

"Gieben build a small temple for her personal religion. A religion that does not offer redemption, but offers support and guidance on how to deal with “the unbearable lightness of being”. Water is a key element within her concrete temple. The water that Mozes walked through and Jezus walked on is the same water where life crawled out according to the theory of evolution. On a number of tablets Jessie Gieben offers an overview of contemporary commandments , not handed out by God on a mountain, but by a tinderdate, MC Donalds and many others."
